You funded on Kickstarter. Congratulations, and welcome to the part nobody warns you about: collecting shipping addresses, variant choices, add-on sales, and late pledges from hundreds or thousands of backers. That job is called pledge management, and the standard tools charge a percentage for it.
What the incumbents cost
BackerKit charges a tiered campaign fee of roughly 1.5 to 2% of your total raise, plus about 3.5% on add-on revenue. PledgeBox is free to start and takes 3% of what you upsell. On a $100,000 campaign with healthy add-ons, pledge management alone can cost several thousand dollars, after Kickstarter already took its 5%.
The Shopify route
A growing number of creators skip the dedicated pledge manager and run the whole post-campaign phase on a Shopify store: backers complete a survey that is really a checkout, add-ons are just products, late pledges are just orders, and every backer becomes a real customer you can reach again for the next launch. No percentage leaves the building, and the store keeps working for you after fulfillment ends.
- Surveys become discounted or zero-priced checkouts that collect address and variant in one step.
- Add-ons become normal products, which means bundles, upsells, and analytics all work.
- Late pledges become a live product page instead of a closed portal.
The honest trade-off
Dedicated pledge managers exist because the survey and locking logic is fiddly to reproduce by hand: charging shipping later, locking orders before fulfillment waves, handling backers who never respond. Doing it manually on Shopify works best for smaller campaigns and simple reward structures.
We are exploring a flat-price pledge manager built on Shopify, from the same team as Fundcap, with no percentage of your raise or add-ons, ever. If that is something your campaign needs, tell us about your campaign or email support@fundcap.app with the subject 'Pledge manager'. Enough interest is exactly what moves it up our roadmap.
